About Surah Al-Qasas (The Stories)

Surah Al-Qasas is the 28th chapter of the Holy Quran. It is a Meccan Surah consisting of 88 verses. The Surah is named "The Stories" because it beautifully narrates the complete story of Prophet Moses (Musa) from his birth, his time in Pharaoh's palace, his accidental killing of an Egyptian, his flight to Midian, his marriage, his prophethood at the burning bush, his confrontation with Pharaoh, and the eventual destruction of Pharaoh and his army in the sea.

This Surah was revealed during the middle Meccan period when the Muslims were facing severe persecution. The detailed account of Moses and Pharaoh served as a great source of comfort and hope for the early Muslims, assuring them that Allah helps the oppressed and ultimately defeats tyrants, no matter how powerful they appear.

Apart from the story of Moses, the Surah also discusses the response of the People of the Book to the Quran, the importance of guidance coming only from Allah, the fate of arrogant cities, and the famous story of Qarun (Korah) who was swallowed by the earth due to his arrogance and love for worldly wealth. The Surah ends with powerful verses affirming the Oneness of Allah and the finality of the message brought by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
